Donating tax-effectively means more money for us, reclaimed from the taxman.

Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a simple process allowing us to claim back tax on your donation, which means that we get an extra 28p for every pound you donate. Gift Aid replaced the former 'Covenant' arrangements.

As a registered charity, we can increase the value of donations from anyone who pays UK Income Tax by 28%. This is by us recovering the Income Tax which you have already paid, and is at no extra cost to you; all you have to do is to complete and return to us a simple Gift Aid declaration:

SVR Rolling Stock Trust Company Ltd
Registered No 4341280, Registered Charity No 1092723
Please complete this Gift Aid Declaration so that the Chancellor can increase the value of your donation by 28%. You don't lose, and the Rolling Stock Trust gains instead of the taxman. Please send it to us with your donation cheque or standing order. Thank You!

Gift Aid Declaration

I am a UK taxpayer, and want SVR Rolling Stock Trust Co Ltd to claim back the tax on all donations that I make, until I notify you otherwise.

Giving through your Self-Assessment Return

As a registered charity, the SVR Rolling Stock Trust is able to benefit from the Inland Revenue Charities scheme which allows any individual to nominate us to receive your tax repayments as a donation, and the SVR Rolling Stock Trust Co Ltd's name and code number is listed thus on the Inland Revenue website - our code is PAN08DG. This scheme was launched in April 2004, and is additional to the Gift Aid scheme. See www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/charities for further information, and for their forms IR65, Giving to charity by individuals, and form IR64, Giving to charity for business.

Payshare Payroll Giving

PayShare is the name given by The Charity Service to the payroll giving schemes which it provides and administers. Payroll Giving schemes enable employees and some pensioners to give to any UK charity with immediate tax relief on their donations.  This means that a donation of £10 will only reduce the employee's net pay by £7.80, if they pay tax at the basic rate, or £6 if they are paying at the higher rate. Under the system of matching payments from the government, the charity might receive an additional £10, making £20 in total.

If your employer does not provide a scheme already, you will need to persuade someone in authority to start one. Once a scheme is in place just complete a simple form with personal identification details, your charity choices and the gross amount of your gift (your pledge), ie the amount before the tax relief you will receive. Your employer will have a stock of joining forms.  You can change the amounts you give and/or the charities to benefit, whenever you wish. If you want to stop giving altogether, just tell your employer to stop making the deductions from your pay.

Government Matching of Employees' Donations: In a scheme which qualifies for an employer's grant, each employee's donations during the qualifying period will be matched pound for pound up to a maximum of £10 per month for a period of 6 consecutive months.

What is so good about PayShare for Employers? Charities receive a regular income, heavily subsidised by the government. All related costs are deductible for tax purposes. It provides an effective way to increase support for a chosen charity of the year. Providing a scheme is just one way of showing a caring approach to HR matters. Participation demonstrates a commitment to working in partnership with the community. It's so easy and inexpensive to run.

How do you start and run a scheme? Sign a contract with The Charity Service, an Inland Revenue approved agency charity. Let your workforce know about PayShare and how it works. Encourage them to participate. Make joining forms available to the staff. The forms will be supplied by The Charity Service. Set up your payroll system to make the PayShare deductions before PAYE is calculated but after calculating National Insurance contributions. Modern software makes this easy. Every month send one payment to The Charity Service for the total of the PayShare deductions.
